Karin knew when enough was enough. Seeing the vampires fangs told her that she was dancing with the devil. Her smirk remained on her face as she crossed the room to sit by the fire place, peeling her wet windbreaker off her back. The heat from the fire warmed her bare arms instantly. Of all the days to wear a regular tee shirt, she just had to chose the one where she was traipsing through snow. The cold bit at her scared arms as soon as they were uncovered, but they quickly grew numb with the fires heat.
She glanced at the dog once or twice. I'm not a dog, nor am I a lycan. He can't treat me like one, I don't care the circumstances. Vampires didn't scare her. She worked with them almost on a nightly basis. Sometimes she would work for them, or hunt them. She would fight him if she had to, but it was easier to avoid one in the first place. The last thing she wanted was to be stuck back out in the snow.

Malico assumed that he got his point across that he doesn't like being messed with or disrespected. He thought she would try and pet Niru, but since Niru even hated him before he saved Niru's life there was no way he would let her. Malico could see it clearly, Karin going to pet Niru only to pull back a bloodied hand. Sure it would just make more of a mess and he still would be angry but he guessed she was smarter then she appeared. He had to give her credit for that. "So what buisness do you have here at the Snow Lodge?"

"I'm meeting someone." Those words were over used in her book. It seemed like everywhere she was, she was waiting for someone. This time it was her teacher she was waiting for. That was a nice change of pace, though she would rather the meeting place be somewhere else. She had hope that this would be a pleasure call, and nothing to do with work. She absently started working some of the knots out of her hair. At least had to try keeping up appearances, right? Who was she kidding, she didn't care about how she looked. So long as her arms were covered, she was happy. Low and behold, her arms were not covered and she was not happy. Coincidence? Maybe. She didn't like her scars, particularly the acidic burn on the upper half of her right arm.

Malico couldn't help but to look at the scars on her arms and he didn't expect such things on such a girl. "If you don't mind me prodding...where did you get those scars from?" Malico wouldn't make eye contact with her it didn't seem like a question he wanted to ask but still it came out. He normally doesn't pry into the lives of others but for somereason these marks facinated him.

Karin mentaly flinched at the question. "Working," she answered simply, her fingers unconsously tracing the burn on her arm. "Different odd jobs. Not all of them nessasarly... ideal. Let alone safe." She shifted a bit to put more of her back towards the vampire. She didn't want him to see the rest of her colection of scars. The ones on her arm were bad enough with out him knowing of the others. She was always self consious about her scars; wearing long sleaves even in summer. She always took great care to keep them to herself. Today however, as she hurried to get out the door, she simply pulled on a shirt and windbreaker, not planing to take the windbreaker off.

Niru went to the door and pawed at it for a few moments before Malico got up from his seat and put his coat on. "Well, I'm taking Niru to play in the snow, if you want you can join us but I believe you'll want to stay here and warm up." He pointed to a closet door next to the kitchen door. "If you need a blinket there are extras in there." He opened the door to the outside and with a blast of wind in his face he dissapeared and the door shut.

The cold air hit her hard as the door opened and closed. Karin scooted herself closer to the fire, using its heat to keep her warm and dry herself off. Her front side was drying fairly quickly, the cotton, polyester mix instantly losing its moisture. The jeans she wore were still damp at the ends, but that's to be expected. She took this moment of privacy and turned her back to the flames. The heat was greatly welcomed as her numb fingers continued working with her matted hair. Her pant pocket started vibrating, the annoying tune of her cell phone going off. The screen on the front told her it was her teacher. It switched to the voice mail before she answered it. When the light on the screen blinked off, she checked it, listening to the deep voice of her not too old teacher.
"I'm sorry Karin, but I can't meet with you today. I wanted to give you something, and tell you you have a new assignment. It's a job with the police, they need you to help salve a series of murders." Just like him, Karin thought with a smirk. It was always business first with her teacher. Thus why she was able to learn so quickly. "Unfortunately something came up, and my wife had to be rushed to the hospital..."
She hung up, not needing to hear anymore. Her smirk was gone completely. Her mind raced with the possibilities. He wouldn't have told her what happened over the phone, she knew that much. But now she was stuck there with nothing to do but worry about the poor woman who was more a mother to her than her step mother. She couldn't replace her own mother, her real mother, nor did she want to. She was more an aunt in that regard. Karin always thought of her as such. And now she was up in the mountains with a vampire and no idea of what could have happened to the woman.

Malico heared the annoying sound of a cell phone going off almost as soon as he walked outside. "stupid girl, why go through the trouble of hiking up a mountain just to get bothered?" He thought out loud. "Then again it might be that someone she was waiting for."
He couldn't hear any voice but from the window he could see the anxiety on her face. Something was wrong, her energy drowned in her minds horror. Perhaps someone was hurt or had died. He knew that face all too well from when he use to make it. You can't have an eternal life without the pain of seeing everyone you ever knew grow and die while you stay the same. It's like putting an artificial plant in a garden with all the real ones. Come winter, when all the others had died, that one plant still stands as perfect as when it was planted.
Niru started picking in Malico's trench pocket for his toy. Malico pulled out a cat doll with a pair of pullies made from the arms and legs on each side. NIru grabbed one end and Malico held tightly to the other. Niru had a strong bite and it's times like these when Malico remembers when they first met. Niru nearly bit his hand, and Malico never really thought about how much damage that could have done to him.
After a moment, he waits outside wonderingif he should go comfront her and ask what happened. But, he didn't want to get close to anyone else. They'll just end up dying and leaving him behind in the snow. "Well, I'm all ready out in the snow. I might as well try to help." He says outloud just before walking back into the cabin. "Whatever that call was about, why don't we go try to fix it. You didn't seem too happy from the window. Tell me, what do we need to do?"

Karin turned her head slightly, just enough to see him through the corner of her eye. "I don't know." Truth. Simple and clean, yet at the same time, not so simple. But as soon as those words escaped her lips, she felt it. The overwhelming notion of feelling like one is unable to do anything. She hadn't felt this sence her mother died. It hurts. As soon as she got the news of what happened to her mother she broke down like the child she thought she left behind. Now the tears were threatning to fall again. Tears she swore she would never let fall again.

"Crying won't help anyone, and I'll ask again. What do we need to do? I won't let you drop the subject if it makes you this weak just to think about." Malico walked over to her a picked a tear running down her cheek to lift off her face. "We could just sit here and forget I bursted in the door to say anything, but I don't feel like watching anyone cry and feel like there's nothing they can do. It's painful just to watch. Which road do you choose?"

Karin pulled her face out of his hands. Pride was another thing she held. It easily turned to sarcastic anger, but it kept her alive. "I don't think we're going anywhere unless you have a snow vehicle hidden up your sleeve." There went her sarcasm. She pulled herself off the floor, not caring about her angry scars at the moment. "I'm stuck up here in the fucking snow while my teacher's taking his wife to the hospital. Even there there's nothing I can do." She kept her voice as steady as possible. The big strong Animator. Its hard to feel big and strong when you're five foot five and the man towering over you just seems to grow taller. Her anger and pride smothered her tears, just as they have all those years ago. Good old anger and pride.

"No snow mobiles, sorry." A small smirk cam e to his face at he got down to her level. "But tell me my dear, can you ride a horse?" Malico knew of a small ranch that held big strong mongolian horses that they could borrow. The best part was that the place wasn't at all far from the Snow Lodge. "Since this is an ergent matter I would also hope that you can ride bare back, because there's no time to spare."

Karin quirked an eye brow. "I never rode a horse, but I'm a fast learner." Then a thought hit her like a snow ball. "Do you have anything warmer than a windbreaker I can use?" A wind breaker did simply that, broke the wind. It didn't do shit for keeping one warm.

"Well yes I do." Malico reached into a large tranch coat pocket that ran next to his left hip and pulled out a red hoodie with black tribal markings. It was extra thick with a layer of polyester and a layer of windbreaker, it was his snowboarding jacket from when he use to have time to spare. "This will do I think, you'll need to role the colar up so it covers your nose. It's like being in an oven if your not in weather colder than 30 degrees."

"Well that's what it feels like," Karin said mostly to herself. She took the hoodie from him and pulled it on, leaving the hood on her head. It was obviously way too big for her. Just the way she liked it. It was warm and well incubated. Somewhere along the way she lost her shoes. Must have left them by the door, she thought as she pulled the collar up around her mouth and nose. She had to roll it down a little so she could see, but otherwise it was perfect. Nice and tosty. No shaking like a dried leaf. She thought with a small smile on her face.
